Four tips that answer most questions we hear at the counter.
- December 1 to March 15. In Quebec, winter tires are mandatory during this period on passenger vehicles. Having them installed before the first snowfall helps you avoid the November wait.
- Winter and all-season tires use different rubber compounds. Winter tire rubber stays flexible in cold weather. All-season rubber hardens as temperatures drop, reducing grip on snow and ice.
- Four tires, always. Using only two winter tires affects braking balance and handling. The vehicle behaves differently from what the driver expects.
- Measure tread wear instead of guessing. Winter tires lose grip well before they look worn out. Have the tread depth measured at every seasonal change: it is free and takes just a few minutes.
