An electric SUV, built on the new LEAF
The Eclipse Sportback EV is an entirely new model: Mitsubishi describes it as a sporty, 100% electric subcompact SUV. The Eclipse name is back, but it has nothing to do with the gas-powered Eclipse Cross, which remains available separately.
The vehicle is supplied by Nissan, Mitsubishi’s partner within the Alliance, and is based on the new generation of the Nissan LEAF, according to Mitsubishi Canada’s July 28, 2026 press release. Mitsubishi gives it its own front and rear bumpers, its own headlights and taillights, its own alloy wheels and, of course, the three-diamond emblem. For anyone who knows the LEAF, it is a proven platform dressed differently; for anyone who knows Mitsubishi, it is the first time the brand offers an all-electric SUV in Canada alongside its Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid. Our article on the 2027 LEAF details this new generation.
454 km of estimated range
Mitsubishi Canada announces an estimated range of up to 454 km with the standard 75 kWh battery. The battery is liquid-cooled, which helps charging, range and service life alike, according to the manufacturer.
As with any electric vehicle, this figure is an estimate measured in favourable conditions. In a Quebec winter, with the heater on and winter tires, expect noticeably less. The Canadian press release does not yet say whether a heat pump is standard: that is a question to ask at the dealership, because it changes consumption a great deal in extreme cold. Our article on winter range explains what the cold really takes away.
Charging: Tesla port as standard and 35 minutes from 10% to 80%
Every Eclipse Sportback EV has two charging ports, according to Mitsubishi Canada:
- a NACS port, Tesla’s format, for Level 3 fast charging, with access to the Supercharger network;
- a J1772 port for Level 1 and 2 charging, at home or at public stations.
On fast charging, the vehicle accepts up to 150 kW and goes from 10% to 80% charge in about 35 minutes. The manufacturer specifies that this time varies with the charger, the outside temperature, the battery’s temperature and condition, and the use of accessories while charging. In practice, in Quebec, most owners charge mainly at home on a Level 2 charger overnight, and use fast charging on the road.
The 10-year warranty also applies to the battery
It is Mitsubishi’s strongest argument, and it extends to its first electric SUV. According to Mitsubishi Canada, the Eclipse Sportback EV is covered by:
- a 10-year or 160,000 km limited warranty on the powertrain and on the lithium-ion battery;
- a 5-year or 100,000 km new vehicle limited warranty;
- 5 years of roadside assistance, unlimited kilometres.
The terms apply whichever comes first, and regular maintenance is not covered. The new vehicle warranty excludes, among other things, ordinary batteries and certain items such as entertainment systems: the full conditions are provided at the dealership. On an electric vehicle, the battery is the part that worries buyers the most: 10 years of coverage speaks directly to that fear. It is the same spirit as the Outlander PHEV warranty.
And the price?
It is not yet announced. Mitsubishi Canada says it will be announced soon, and that the Eclipse Sportback EV will have a very competitive retail price, with the aim of making it eligible for the Government of Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP). No amount will be published before the official announcement: as soon as it is known, the model page at our dealerships will show the selling price, freight and pre-delivery inspection included.
The lineup will be simple: a single trim, described as very well equipped, with an optional Tech Package. The exact content of each will be confirmed when orders open.
Five colours in the Canadian photos
The Canadian images published by Mitsubishi show the vehicle in five colours. The colour palette offered and any paint charges will be confirmed at the dealership.
How to reserve it in the network
Groupe Beaucage has two Mitsubishi dealerships: Mitsubishi de Granby and Mitsubishi de Drummondville. Both already have a page devoted to the Eclipse Sportback EV, where the price and availability will be added as soon as they are confirmed. Leaving your contact details now means being called as soon as the first vehicles have an arrival date. See the Eclipse Sportback EV in Granby or DrummondvilleFR.
And that is only the beginning: Mitsubishi Canada announces, for early 2027, a new, more rugged Outlander derivative designed for off-roading. If a pure electric vehicle doesn’t suit your use yet, the Outlander PHEVFR remains the brand’s plug-in option.
