What changes under the bodywork
Mitsubishi calls it “the most capable Outlander ever offered.” According to Mitsubishi Canada’s press release of October 26, 2026:
| What changes | Current Outlander | Diamond Trail |
|---|---|---|
| S-AWC modes | Normal, ECO, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, Mud | The same, plus Rock |
| Hill descent control | Activated by the driver | Automatic in Rock mode |
| Multi-view camera | Up to 10 km/h | Up to 30 km/h |
| Approach / departure angles | 18.3° / 22.2° | 20.5° / 23.1° |
| Standard tires | Road tires | Nexen Roadian ATX all-terrain, 18 in. |
In concrete terms, Rock mode reacts faster when a wheel slips, and a new screen shows the slip of each wheel. The camera helps you see rocks and ruts in front of the wheels during slow progress. The redesigned bumpers give more clearance to attack a slope and get off it. Ground clearance has not been quantified yet.
What you’ll notice at first glance
Trail Green Metallic at launch, white roof optional. Matte black grille and headlight surrounds, over-fenders, raised roof rails. Inside, water-repellent dark grey upholstery with khaki stitching.
Trail Edition or Diamond Trail: the difference
The names are similar, but the equipment differs. The Trail Edition is an American version, launched in 2025 and carried over in 2026. Mitsubishi Motors North America describes it as an Outlander SE with black 18-inch wheels, black trim and graphics and all-weather floor mats; its all-terrain tires and Thule roof rack are accessories installed by the dealer. It is not offered in Canada.
The Diamond Trail, for its part, adds traction features and off-road equipment: Rock mode, automatic hill descent, a camera up to 30 km/h, improved approach and departure angles and all-terrain tires fitted at the factory.
Against the other adventure-minded compact SUVs
Factory editions tailored to a purpose are multiplying: performance at Toyota GR or Nissan NISMO, adventure with the Woodland, Rock Creek and Wilderness. The Diamond Trail belongs to the second family. Figures from the manufacturers’ Canadian pages:
| Model | Approach / departure | Ground clearance |
|---|---|---|
| 2028 Outlander Diamond Trail | 20.5° / 23.1° | Not announced |
| 2026 Toyota RAV4 Woodland | 19° / 23° (summary) · 20° / 24° (product sheet) | 216 mm |
| 2026 Nissan Rogue Rock Creek | 19.0° / 23.6° | 209.5 mm |
| 2025 Subaru Forester Wilderness | 23.5° / 25.4° | 235 mm |
| 2027 Honda CR-V TrailSport | Not published | 208 mm |
All of them come with all-terrain tires as standard. On approach angle, the Diamond Trail beats the Rogue Rock Creek and the RAV4 Woodland, for which Toyota Canada publishes two values depending on the document. The Forester Wilderness 2025 has larger approach and departure angles. The Santa Fe XRT, for its part, does not appear in the 2026 and 2027 lineups published by Hyundai Canada.
What has not been announced yet
- The engine, and therefore whether there will be a plug-in hybrid version: neither confirmed nor ruled out.
- Ground clearance, tire size and towing.
- The price, which Mitsubishi Canada says will come “in coming months.”
- The Canadian trims and the rest of the colour palette.
See it in Quebec
Mitsubishi Canada announces sales starting in the first half of 2027. To follow its arrival in Quebec, talk to Mitsubishi de Granby or Mitsubishi de Drummondville, the two Mitsubishi dealerships of Groupe Beaucage. Until then, the 2026 Outlander already has standard S-AWC and its six modes, 210 to 213 mm of ground clearance and 907 kg of towing; the 2026 Outlander PHEV offers 72 km of electric range. A test drive will tell you whether the size suits you before you wait for the Diamond Trail.

Frequently asked questions
When does the Outlander Diamond Trail Edition arrive in Quebec?
Mitsubishi Canada announces sales starting in the first half of 2027, as a 2028 model. The date it reaches dealerships is not yet known.
Trail Edition or Diamond Trail: what’s the difference?
The Trail Edition is an American version (2025 and 2026) made of trim and accessories, with no announced mechanical change, absent from the Canadian catalogue. The 2028 Diamond Trail Edition, on sale in Canada from the first half of 2027, adds a Rock mode, a camera that stays active up to 30 km/h, improved approach and departure angles, and all-terrain tires as standard.
Which engine, and will there be a plug-in hybrid?
Mitsubishi has not announced the powertrain, and no press release confirms or rules out a PHEV version. For context, the 2026 Outlander has a 1.5 L mild-hybrid turbo making 174 hp and the 2026 Outlander PHEV a 2.4 L with two electric motors.
How much will it cost?
The Canadian price has not been announced. Mitsubishi Canada says it will be released “in coming months.”
Which mode should I choose, and what does Rock change?
Normal for everyday driving. According to Mitsubishi Canada, Snow reduces power at launch to pull away gently on a slippery surface; Mud increases throttle response and limits slip in deep mud and snow; Gravel and Tarmac are tailored to gravel and asphalt; ECO maximizes fuel economy. On the Diamond Trail, Rock brakes the slipping wheel faster than those modes and automatically activates hill descent control; the multi-view camera, for its part, can stay on up to 30 km/h.
Will the Mitsubishi Pajero be sold in Canada?
Nothing has been decided. The new Pajero, unveiled on September 2, 2026, is launching first in Thailand, then in Japan and Australia. Mitsubishi Canada indicated on August 25, 2026 that no decision had been made on its coming to Canada. Here, the adventure-minded Mitsubishi that has been announced is the Outlander Diamond Trail.
Is the Outlander a real off-road vehicle?
The 2026 Outlander is an S-AWC all-wheel-drive SUV made for snow, mud and gravel roads rather than for crossing rocks: six modes including Gravel, Snow and Mud, 210 to 213 mm of ground clearance and road tires as standard. The 2028 Diamond Trail adds a Rock mode, all-terrain tires and improved approach and departure angles; its ground clearance remains to be announced.
